ZHUHAI/BEIJING (Reuters) – China unveiled a sophisticated new stealth fighter jet at an air show on Tuesday, a show of muscle during a visit by U.S. President Barack Obama for an Asia-Pacific summit.

China hopes the much-anticipated J-31 stealth aircraft, developed by the Aviation Industry Corp of China (Avic), the country’s top aircraft maker, will compete with U.S.-made hardware in export markets.

The J-31 is about the same size as the F-35, the U.S. Department of Defense said in a report this year.

The F-35 program is ten years behind schedule and billions over budget. The ONLY way the F-35 program is going to work is by having high volume sales. That already is in jeopardy and anything that interferes with sales will cripple and already bloated and wasteful program. In the near future we are not going to have an air force. Our older planes are falling apart. We have 165 F-22′s which aren’t getting any younger and we are throwing a huge portion of the defense budget to feed Lockheed Martin on this turkey of an aircraft. It’s pure insanity.

China will pump these out by the thousands while the US will only be able to afford a couple of 100 F35′s due to cost. Mark this post ! Does anyone see a problem in the direction the US is heading.
