BEIJING: China has developed a highly accurate laser weapon system that can shoot down light drones at low altitude, state media reported.
The machine has a two-kilometre range and can bring down “various small aircraft” within five seconds of locating its target, the official Xinhua news agency said, citing a statement by the China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP), one of the developers.
据报道，中国已经研发了一种高度精确的激光武器系统，可以击落低空飞行的无人机。
该武器射程为2公里，能够在5秒内定位目标，新华社的报道引述中国工程物理研究院一位研发人员的话。
Xinhua showed pictures of large metal boxes in camouflage paint and the wreckage of a small drone, some of it burning.
It is expected to “play a key role in ensuring security during major events in urban areas” and address concerns on unlicensed mapping activities, according to Xinhua.

why should india buy from China. Laser weapons are not very difficult to develop. India is already working on KALI (Kilo Ampere Linear Injector) system. These are categorized Directional Energy Weapons (DEWs) and are the state of art. The energy from this can be channelized in the form of em radiation, x-rays, microwaves, lasers, masers, as well as particles with mass. These will be game-changers in shooting down incoming missiles and hostile objects. Only our DRDO should be able to deliver the projects faster, though these are development in nature.
