The last British soldier left Afghanistan over the weekend. The last Americancombat troops will be gone by Christmas. Afghanistan’sbeleaguered government is looking in new directions for help, and new President Ashraf Ghani arrived Tuesday in Beijing.

Certainly Ghani can go home with sometangible reassurance. He met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who pledged theaid and told Ghani he will ask investors to look at development and naturalresource industries like ore and mining.

Ghani显然可以带着切实的保证回家了。他会见了中国国家主席Xi，习主席承诺会援助阿富汗，并告知Ghandi他会号召投资者关注阿富汗的发展以及原矿和采矿等资源产业。

The Associated Press reports that China pledged $330 million in grants to Afghanistanthrough 2017, will provide professional training for 3,000 Afghans over thenext five years, and also offered $5 million in humanitarian aid and willcontinue a scholarship program to 500 Afghans.

美联社报道，中国承诺截止2017年将给予阿富汗3.3亿美元的赠款，并在未来五年内给予3000名阿富汗人专业培训，同时提供500万美元的人道主义援助，并继续支持给予500名阿富汗人的奖学金项目。

Most analysts say the West has noparticular reason to mistrust Beijing’s effortto step up its involvement in Afghanistan,whose government is still fighting off a persistent insurgency by Talibanforces. China’s interest ina secure Afghanistanand a stable region matches US and European goals.

大部分研究员认为西方没有特别的理由不信任北京努力提升其在阿富汗事务的参与程度，阿富汗政府仍在持续与塔利班引起的长期叛乱斗争。中国对安全稳定的阿富汗的关注与美国和欧洲的目标是一致的。

As soon as US leave , or are asked to leave, and even before , the Chinese come in building dams and power plants andstart buying up whatever minerals and oil that they can. And all our effortsare for nothing , and we have done this over and over again . But I guess whenyour business is *** war , then maybe the Military Industrial Complex doesshow a profit . And if you do not mind killing 5000 of your troops and takingcare of all the wounded and mentally shattered , then it must be worth it tothe stockholders.

一旦美国离开，或是被要求离开，甚至更早，中国人开始建造水坝和发电厂，想尽一切办法买光所有的矿产和石油。美国的努力一无所获，而且我们还在不断重复做无用功。但是我猜当你的事业会引起战争，也许军事工业就会盈利。如果你不介意杀死军中5000人，并照顾所有伤员和精神崩溃的，那这对利益相关者就是值得的。
