【英国网友】教育：60名中国教师将赴英国帮助当地学生提高数学水平

作为旨在提高教育标准的纳税人基金的一部分，来自中国的教师将被派往英国学校，消息将于今天宣布。
来自上海高水平学校的60名教师组成的队伍将首次被聘请，力图在英国教育系统促进中国式教学方法。
除了帮助学生提高数学水平之外，他们还负责培训英国的中学数学教师。
It comes amid concerns that schoolchildren in England are underperforming compared with their peers in the Far East in subjects seen as vital to the nation’s economic future.
International league tables published late last year suggested that 15-year-olds were the equivalent of three years behind those in Shanghai and between one and two years behind pupils from Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan.

Why don't you have a look at the conditions under which they work before spouting such silliness? 50%? Where did you pluck that from?

You can bring the whole population of China to Britain and it won't raise the test scores. The culture is different and only a change in that can make a difference. Right now becoming a pop singer and registering in Xfactor seems to be a priority for many British kids/teenagers not math scores. I am not an expert but somehow I don't think the Chinese have that problem. Not yet anyway.

Maths scores follow IQ-scores. In the UK, Orientals do best (highest average IQ), followed by whites, followed by Asians, followed by blacks. That is what nature has wrought, and what no man (or woman) can put asunder. Good to try though, but it won't make that much difference.

In theory there isn't anything wrong with the English education system.
In Hong Kong (where I live) I know that many local parents with financial means would rather send their children to international schools here because they find local HK schools to prescriptive with to much focus on study and not on a rounded education - HK graduates can be naïve and a bit useless when it comes to the real world. The majority of international schools in HK teach the English syllabus and their students get outstanding results.

What you say is very true. The schools in Hong Kong dish out far to much homework even when the schools know that it is unproductive. However, parents put a lot of pressure on schools to give more homework because they think more work equals better results.
There is a balance between too much homework and too little and the Hong Kong system is a grind for children and they never get their heads out of books to have a look at the World until they graduate. That is why they tend to be naïve and a bit useless when it comes to the real world. (Not all but it is noticeable)
That said, the international schools in HK that teach the English syllabus do really well because of the students work much harder than their counter-parts in the UK

Its the same in mainland China - all the International Schools teaching western and English curriculums are over subscribed - NONE OF THE CHINESE ELITES GIVE THEIR OWN KIDS A CHINESE EDUCATION! But the elites want it for YOUR KIDS....because it destroys their critical thinking abilities DEAD.

Also people may want to look at the relatively high suicide rate in many Asian countries because kids are put under to much pressure at school.
