玄奘的《西游记》将被改编成美剧

BEIJING: A major US television network has announced that it is producing a drama series which would be loosely based on the Chinese epic 'Journey to the West' chronicling the journey of scholar Hiuen Tsang to India.

The network, AMC, has announced six one-hour episodes named 'Badlands' due to be screened in late 2015 or early 2016. The series will focus on the martial arts aspects of the story.

The original 16th century epic has tales of adventures of Monkey King who protected the Buddhist monk, Xuanzang (Chinese name of Hiuen Tsang), against demons and evil spirits in his journey to India. Initial reports suggest there will be no Indian actors in any of the prominent roles. Media statement issued by the network does not suggest any spiritual content in the drama serial.

It is not even clear if the TV serial will show India as the fountainhead of Buddhism before it spread to rest of Asia. Martial arts filmmakers Daniel Wu and Stephen Fung are involved in the project. The network said the project was created by writers/show runners Al Gough and Miles Millar. They will join Oscar-Nominated producers Stacy Sher and Michael Shamberg in the production process.

I had the chance to see some of the legends of the Monkey King at the Shen Yun performance by Shen Yun Performing Arts. The presentation was great in the form of classical chinese dance that focused on the spiritual aspect of the legends. It would be nice to see the spiritual aspects rather than the martial arts aspects.

u.s television network should make the drama based on realistic and factual events based on hiuen tsang's visit to india and the west. hiuen tsang spent more time in india and discovered origin of buddhism in india and how it enriched chinese lives and lifestyle. he found india's mistry, mysticism and mythology along with deep history, civilization and culture. if u.s tv network does not portray these things in huein tsang drama, then drama will be meaningless without any facts.

美国电视台应该根据史实来拍这部电视剧，再现玄奘去印度/西方取经的史实。玄奘在印度呆了很长一段时间，发现了佛教在印度的起源，以及佛教后来如何丰富了中国人的生活和生活方式。他不仅发现了印度的神秘，而且领略了印度厚重的历史，古老的文明和丰富的文化。如果美国电视台不在电视剧里加以体现这些事实，那么这部电视剧就没有任何意义。
